So it's been a minute since I last updated you on the adventures of me and Eloise, but I'm finally back! And we have a lottttt of catching up to do.
I'll post more about the weeks leading up to Spring Break, but for now I wanted to focus on something very important that happened... and that is that I ate a macron in PARIS, FRANCE! I know, the birthplace of Ally & Eloise's best selling treat.
So let's talk about these Parisian macrons:
I decided to be a little adventurous and get an assortment of the Napoleon (vanilla and strawberry), Pistachio, and Caramel. First off, the store that I purchased these macrons from was insane. The color theme was red and gold, so the concept of luxury was literally coating the walls. All of the macrons (and a few other little goodies) were lined up in a display case in the middle of the shop. There were TONS of amazing flavors that I could have tried (but again, I am a poor college student, so I could only ball out on three flavors). They were perfectly shaped, and the outside was just hard enough to hold the shape of the macron, but they were super delicate. The cookie cracked almost as soon as I held it in my hand! The ratio of filling to cookie was almost exactly 1:2, so it was a well-rounded, flavorful experience. My personal favorite flavor was absolutely the caramel... it was a buttery, rich, decadent flavor that I was not expecting at all. It took all of my willpower not to stuff the entire little dessert in my mount (I did eat the rest of it that night, after my crepe experience). Despite blowing me away with its flavor, the caramel macron was not my favorite to look at - the Napoleon macron took the cake in that category. The white of the frosting contrasted beautifully with the bright red of the strawberry flavored cookie, and I'm a sucker for gold, so the gold leaf accents on the cookie were mesmerizing. It was absolutely over the top, and that's exactly what I loved about it! Paris in general is over the top, so it seemed so fitting to have a macron that reflected the life of the city as well.
Have you ever had a Parisian macron before! Or, better question, have you ever had an Ally & Eloise macron before? Let me know in the comments if you have and what your favorite flavors are! I'll see you all again real soon with more pastry stories. :)
