Aleka Selig, called Ally as a kid by her father, has never been far from a kitchen. Whether growing up in a “foodie” family in Texas or watching her mother perfect the chocolate chip cookie, Aleka started young and never stopped. She graduated from Sewanee with a degree in Studio Art & Art History and quickly realized her heart was in the kitchen. She moved to New York to train at the Culinary Institute of Education where she received her degree in Culinary Art & Culinary Management, and after working at Amy’s Bread she knew it was time to open her own shop!
In April of 2012, Ally & Eloise Bakeshop opened in Columbia, SC, featuring baked goods of every variety: cakes, cookies, tarts, cheesecakes, macarons, and “baby cakes”. By 2016 Aleka was ready for a new adventure, so Ally & Eloise added its second location on Main Street in downtown Columbia!
Selig says, “My favorite part of my job other than the obvious (baking) is the people I get to meet and form relationships with. Each item we create lands in the hands of someone special, whether it be an after school snack, a birthday party, or a wedding cake. Knowing our customers have chosen us to play a role in their special occasions makes our work that much sweeter!”
